It’s been eight years since the end of my hike and my Trail experience stays with me in everything I do. I get in trouble with my wife when I say that thru-hiking the AT was the best decision in my life. She reminds me that marrying her was the best decision in my life.
She’s not always wrong. :)
We have two wonderful kids and the Trail’s quiet time and lack of distractions is a distant memory. The kids and my business take up much of my time. My garden and volleyball coaching take up most of the rest. But I still get in an annual backpacking trip.
And next year I get to hike the JMT with my brother. It’s only 200+ miles and we’re planning on 3 weeks, but it’s a long trail. And I’m grateful.
