Miles To Go
Today was a great, relaxing day hiking with Rockhound and his dad. We got dropped off at the trailhead by his grandfather at 11:15 and took seven hours to walk 10 miles on Bromley Mountain. We ran into Skyline and Sundance and Einstein as well as some of Sundance’s relatives who were slack packing them for the day. Skyline and Sundance are hiking the trail as a honeymoon and today’s their six month wedding anniversary.
The Vermont woods are dense, full of birch, beech, maple and moose. Ok—maybe not full of moose—we haven’t seen one yet, but there are plenty of tracks and moose poop!
Chief & Jethro joined us at the shelter tonight. They are a young brother/sister duo. I like the bug net they used in the shelters. It’s cheap, light, and an easy way to take care of the mosquito issue while still taking advantage of the shelters. It doesn’t do as much for the mice and the snoring, but on wet days it’s a nice option.
We’re looking at hiking 14 or so tomorrow. That’s a long day for Rockhound’s dad but it is over fairly easy terrain. I spoke with Heather about a visit on the 5th or 6th, possibly staying with her family in Proctor, VT. Things are going well—good mood, low miles, and great weather!
528 miles to go…more than 3/4 of the way to Katahdin now.
