Today was a zero with Heather at the Inn at Ellis River, a B&B we’ve frequented over the years as a winter getaway. We’re usually up early when we’re here, heading out to the cross country ski trails and happily tired by the end of the day.

Not this time. I’m tired when I wake up. My body’s hurting. The comforts of being with Heather in warm, dry and clean surroundings are just too much. I know what’s coming with my next steps on the trail because I’ve hiked them before. The next 50 miles of the trail are some of the toughest we’ll face the whole way, and the weather’s not looking great.
